Laura King

Laura King is NFPA’s regional director for Canada. Laura was editor of Fire Fighting in Canada and Canadian Firefighter magazines for 10 years before moving to NFPA in 2017. She was a reporter and editor for more than 20 years for newspapers and magazines across Canada and the United States. Laura works with fire departments, emergency managers, municipalities, building officials, electrical inspectors, facilities managers, and others across Canada to help them navigate NFPA resources including codes and standards, public-education tools, and community risk reduction.

Laura has an honours degree from Carleton University in journalism, political science, and public administration. She is a certified fire- and life-safety educator, has a certificate in Introduction to Incident Management Systems, and holds several other certifications in fire, leadership, and mental health. Laura has instructed/facilitated courses in public engagement and emergency management communications for the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology and has presented extensively on emergency management communications at conferences across Canada. Laura is from Cape Breton, has lived and worked in Halifax, Ottawa, Edmonton and the Greater Toronto Area, and is thrilled to travel again to all parts of Canada!
