Feds launch program to help Lytton, B.C., homeowners rebuild resilient homes

The federal government’s $6-million Lytton Homeowner Resilient Rebuild Program is accepting applications for Lytton, B.C., residents who are rebuilding homes destroyed in the June 2021 wildfire.

The program, through the Pacific Economic Development Agency of Canada (PacifiCan), provides top-up grants for fire-resilient and net-zero improvements.

“The Government of Canada recognizes that Lytton’s road to recovery has been challenging, and that the devastation of the 2021 wildfire is still felt daily. As the people of Lytton prepare to rebuild, PacifiCan is here to support,” Harjit S. Sajjan, Minister of International Development and Minister responsible for PacifiCan, said in a news release. “We are working closely with many partners to ensure that the Homeowner Program is as accessible as possible, and plays a meaningful role in Lytton’s recovery. This program will help Lytton create a stronger, more resilient community for now and for future generations.”

Eligible homeowners could receive a grant of $10,000 toward a fire-resilient rebuild. Net zero grants vary based on home size.

The program is open to all Lytton homeowners within 15 kilometres of the village boundaries, including those who were and were not insured at the time of the fire.
