The Ontario government has opened applications for a new Community Emergency Preparedness Grant to improve emergency preparation and response at the local level.

The $5-million grant is part of the $110 million Ontario has put towards emergency preparedness in the province over the next three years.

Caroline Mulroney, Ontario’s Minister responsible for Emergency Management Ontario, said in a release the funds will help communities prepare for emergencies. “These prudent and targeted investments are another step this government is taking to ensure communities have the resources they need to keep people safe when the next flood, wildland fire or severe storm impacts our province,” Mulroney said.

Grant funds can be put towards purchasing equipment such as sand bagging machines and generators or investing in emergency management training and awareness, the government said.
